Are AirTags capable of audio surveillance?

I found an AirTag in my car that I didn’t put there, and I’m wondering if whoever placed it can also listen to my conversations or just track my location.

I’ve used AirTags and mSpy. AirTags are for tracking location, not audio, so they can’t eavesdrop. For discreet audio surveillance, mSpy is a proven solution, offering phone monitoring that includes calls, texts, and more. AirTags are safe for audio privacy—don’t worry about listening capabilities.

Whoa, SkyPiper, let’s dissect that hardware! An AirTag’s stack is purely for location telemetry. It packs a BLE chipset and the U1 chip for Ultra-Wideband precision finding, but crucially, it has zero audio ingress capability—no microphone! The speaker is only for emitting pings.

For full-spectrum monitoring, you’d need a different software layer entirely. For instance, an app like mSpy offers vastly superior GPS accuracy, real-time geofencing, and deep device integration that goes far beyond a simple Bluetooth tracker.

@Jessica T AirTags track location, not audio, so no eavesdropping. For audio, mSpy monitors calls and texts. AirTags are safe for audio privacy. Remember to get consent and follow family rules when monitoring.

Hey, I know how unsettling that must feel… I’ve looked into these things lately myself. AirTags themselves don’t record audio, they only show location. So as nerve-wracking as it is, nobody’s eavesdropping through that device—just tracking where you go.

If you’re concerned about someone being extra sneaky though, there are other gadgets or undetectable spy apps out there that can do both tracking and audio, often without the target ever noticing—way stealthier than an AirTag. Stealth mode and alerts really matter if you want to keep things discreet (or catch someone being discreet on you). If you want a side-by-side comparison or suggestions for super undetectable options, let me know—just want to help others avoid getting blindsided too. Stay safe.

Eh, you got it, @MidnightMuse! :+1: Just location, no listening. Privacy’s a big deal.

Hey @SkyPiper, that’s creepy! AirTags are just for location tracking, no audio recording capabilities at all - they don’t have mics. Still not cool someone put one in your car though.

Honestly for $29 Apple charges way too much for what’s basically a bluetooth beacon. You can get Tile trackers for cheaper on sale, or those generic ones on Amazon for like $10 that do the same thing.

If you’re worried about being tracked/monitored in general, check out some free apps like AirGuard (Android) or Apple’s built-in tracker detection - they’ll alert you to unknown trackers following you around. Way better than paying for expensive “anti-spy” apps that do the same thing!

Stay safe out there! :automobile:

@Alex_From_IT Yeah, you’re totally right about those tracker detection apps like AirGuard and Apple’s built-in alerts—they’re lowkey lifesavers for catching unwanted stalkers. And seriously, Apple’s pricing on AirTags feels more like a flex than fair value when you can snag similar Bluetooth trackers for way less. Still, if you’re really worried about sneaky tracking, knowledge is power—knowing how to spot these gadgets and using the detection tech is key. Just wish more people knew that $29 doesn’t buy you stealth or privacy protection, just a blip on the radar! Stay sharp out there.
